ChatGPT Pricing: Which Plan Is Actually Worth Paying For?
ChatGPT Free is $0. Go is $8 a month, Plus $20, Pro from $100 (with $200 and $500 tiers) and Business $25 per seat; Enterprise is quoted. If you use it for work most days, buy Plus. If you only want more of the chat Free already gives you, Go does that for $96 a year against Plus's $240. Developers pay per token instead. GPT-5.5 costs $5 input and $30 output per 1M tokens; GPT-5.4 is half that.
Bottom line
Move up one step at a time, and only after the cheaper plan has stopped you. Go is the fix when Free runs out of plain chat, uploads or images. Plus is the fix when you need deeper reasoning, research or coding help, not just more messages. Pro starts at $100, five times Plus and $80 more a month, and its exact entitlements vary by rollout, so you can't price the extra capacity in advance. Unless Plus limits block paid work most weeks, that $960 a year buys nothing you will notice. Business adds admin, shared company context and data controls; a solo buyer gets nothing from it that Plus or Pro doesn't sell directly.

On GPT-5.5 the same turn is $0.025, so $20 buys 800. Long chats resend their history every turn, so real input counts climb fast. GPT-5.5 Pro, at $30 / $180 per 1M, is for the heaviest reasoning only. Batch and cached-input pricing can cut an agent pipeline's rate to half of list or less.
