Since 1 June 2026 every Copilot plan bills chat and agent work in "AI Credits". Three lessons on what a credit costs, which plan gets you the best rate, and what still doesn't touch your balance.

What are GitHub Copilot AI Credits?
Since 1 June 2026, the unit every Copilot plan bills in: 1 AI Credit equals $0.01 USD. Chat, agent mode, code review and the Copilot CLI spend credits at each model's API token rate; code completions and Next Edit suggestions do not use credits. Premium requests are gone, except for Pro and Pro+ subscribers on an existing annual plan.
How much does GitHub Copilot cost with AI Credits?
Free is $0 with an unpublished credit allowance. Pro is $10/month for 1,500 credits ($15), Pro+ is $39/month for 7,000 ($70) and Max is $100/month for 20,000 ($200), multipliers of 1.5x, ≈1.79x and 2x. Business is $19/seat for 1,900 credits per user and Enterprise $39/seat for 3,900, both pooled.
Do GitHub Copilot Business and Enterprise use AI Credits the same way?
Yes, with two differences. Business ($19/seat) gets 1,900 credits per user and Enterprise ($39/seat) gets 3,900, exactly the seat price with no flex bonus. The credits are pooled across the organisation, and admins decide whether extra use is allowed once the pool runs out.
