Since 1 June 2026 every GitHub Copilot plan, from Free to Enterprise, bills in "GitHub AI Credits." The conversion is fixed: 1 AI Credit = $0.01 USD. Chat, agent mode, code review and the Copilot CLI spend credits at each model's API token rate, so a bigger model or a longer conversation costs more credits. Credits reset on the 1st of each month (UTC) and unused credits do not roll over. Once the allowance is gone, an individual can keep going at $0.01 per credit up to a budget they set; on Business and Enterprise, admins decide whether extra use is allowed.

The Free plan bills in credits too. It gets 2,000 code completions a month plus an AI credit allowance that GitHub does not publish. Assume that allowance is small and watch the usage meter in your billing settings. One exception to the credit system: Pro and Pro+ subscribers on an existing annual plan stay on the old premium-request billing until that plan ends. For everyone else, premium requests are gone.
